The German Shorthaired Pointer has earned the title of all-purpose dog. He has a keen nose and high intelligence. A versatile hunter and gun dog, he performs highly in the field and water. He is also very alert and faithful and great as a family pet and house dog. This is a medium-sized dog.

It is said he descended from the German Bird Dog and mixed with the Spanish Pointer, English Foxhound, and local German tracking hounds.
